There is a wee little sporting event happening in our town next weekend

Normally when we walk around our downtown area on the weekend we feel pretty lonely. There have been walks where we wondered if we missed a memo about a quarantine or terrorist threat as there are SO few people.  During the week days the working folks in all the downtown business buildings mill around, take breaks and eat lunches but it seems they tend to flee the urban area on the weekends and things are pretty empty during those weekends without a convention or sporting event pulling people downtown.  I have always thought this is too bad as the Downtown area has a lot to offer.  Well the streets are pretty full these days as the lead up continues towards the Super Bowl and the organizers have gone all out.  The weather is supposed to be CRAZY warm by mid week (it was COLD today) and I hope all goes off without a hitch.  I do not follow foot ball (understatement of the year) but I sure am pleased to see all the excitement around Indy!

Beer-bread it's what's for dinner

Thanks to Practically Perfect for a recipe for the easiest.bread.ever.

I used regular flour and baking powder and salt as I do not usually have self-rising flour on hand...

I added sauteed onions and dill

note to self: IPA is too hoppy , next time go with something cheap and tasteless.

The bread was a success and served with something kind of like Ree's broccoli-cheese soup

I mixed cauliflower in with the broccoli because four heads of broccoli is a lot to have lying around.  I also substituted milk for the half and half as I had none and only one cup of cheddar as that is all I had BUT I did add in some yummy Cabra la mancha - which worked quite well, thank you very much. 

I tend to cook at least one full meal. often two and rarely three for the full family.  It gets monotonous so I am trying to shake it up with new recipes and these worked well without having to do any marketing.  Food - yay.

Little bits

11 year olds reading, bulldogs skateboarding, mamas walking and olivia lunchboxes full of treats - and not in that order.

Little Bird

Uncle Mark gave her a blank journal with the Eiffel tower on it for Christmas.  She has put it to use.

 

 

She lives over the seas of death,

and under the mountains of life,

in a forest of despair,

She sleeps in a bed of shrouded light,

and that is where we leave her.

We have Weather

I woke up this morning, in JANUARY, to 56 degrees (13.3) and rainy.  We opened the windows to let in a bit of air - it smelled like spring. Lest we worry that winter has taken its leave - the estimated temp in 12 hours is 19 (7.2).  By afternoon the spring rain will turn to snow and January will return.

A new, new year

With 2012 having nearly completed its first month I thought finally getting a photo of all of the children together (as I failed to do for our Christmas card) seemed like a good idea.  Here is to Valentine cards ;)

 

 

 

 

 

Attempts to brave the 10 degree temps (-12 C) were less successful - at least while smiling.
